To gamify a course or process we break down the project into multiple phases, which easily allows for flexibility and customization. This approach, Truly Understand ▸ Customize ▸ Evaluate ▸ Repeat, is simple, effective and allows for a customized solution that is unique to your application and mission objectives.
Phase 1: Baseline + Plan
In this phase, we review the current state of the process or course to develop a baseline data set. We review existing materials, interview key stakeholders and discuss the mission objectives and desired outcomes. We then evaluate the current system using our proprietary CHAMPS model to identify gaps and determine where to prioritize future activities. The deliverable in this phase is a Baseline Report, which details how easily the process or course can be gamified and what changes are necessary to the training material and delivery method. The Baseline Report provides a summary of the current state and recommendations to reach identified goals.
Phase 2: Design + Pilot
In this phase, we support the design of the new game or gamified process using the Baseline Report as a guide. Through our depth of experience in using a variety of learning management systems (Blackboard, D2L, Canvas, Moodle) and gamfication software applications, we will determine how to best pilot the new material and identify a process to gather feedback. The deliverable in this phase is a gamified process or course and recommendations for Phase 3.
Phase 3: Iterate + Optimize
Rarely does a new process reach peak performance without iterations. In this phase, we provide support during the initial classes or cohorts as they participate in the updated gamified process or course. We measure desired outcomes based on identified goals determined in phase 1 and evaluate performance. We iterate between phase 2 and 3 until the course meets the mission objectives identified in phase 1.
